Mark hired me as the independent consultant (lead geologist) for his train derailment project near Baxter, California, during which time he served as the Environmental Director at Harsco Corporation. The train derailment accident caused a complex environmental problem where massive hydrocarbon impacts extended through extremely rugged terrain within the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. I became quickly impressed with Mark’s effective management style, and technical skills, as together we formulated and implemented regulatory approved plans to investigate and simultaneously remediate the train derailment site. We achieved regulatory Site Closure in 2010. Throughout the Baxter Project, I came to know and understand Mark not just as a client, but as a friend, and consummate professional in his field.
